Welsh-American Genealogical Society (WAGS)|
The Welsh-American Genealogical Society was organized to assist individuals of Welsh ancestry who live in the United States--or those who otherwised are interested in US Welsh genealogy and living away from Wales, who could benefit from belonging to a specialized group to aid them with their research and them in touch with others of similar interest.
WAGS is based in Poultney, Vermont, a slate-mining region konw as the "Slate Valley,." an area with a strong Welsh heritage begun with the opening up of the slate quarries by immigrants from Wales more than a century ago and which has lasted to this day.
The goals of the society are to aid those researching their Welsh ancestry by all possible means, including the publication of a quarterly newsletter, which is packed with information and also contains a members' query section.
The Society has more than 700 members throughout the world, most tof them located in North America. It does not employ a professional staff, but it can guide members to professional help. All officers and staff are volunteers.
WAGS has the exclusive use of Room #2 in the Griswold Library at Green Mountain College, Poultney, Vermont. It has begun collecting bound copies of family histories, manuscripts, old letters, bibles, photographs, documents and books pertaining to the Welsh people, their genealogy and history. These are to be kept in the new facility which is open to members, to researchers, and to the public.
