Which is the cheapest UK airport to fly into during the Olympics?

Planning on flying either into or around the UK this summer? With the Olympics launching in a matter of days rather than weeks, travel plans need to be finalized and itineraries completed.

With the Olympic Village located in Stratford in the heart of East London, it's understandable that London's airports look set to be a pricy place to land. However, the UK is home to many regional airports like Doncaster, Exeter and Norwich, with cheaper flights that might just leave you with a little more spending money for the Games.

When it comes to identifying the UK's cheapest airport, it is difficult to choose one or the other. Depending on timing and the popularity of a route, prices are likely to bob up and down. However, a trip to Norwich airport is likely to be a saving on any flight into London. With excellent transport links and some beautiful local countryside, either staying or going should be stress free.

Explore the stunning woodlands of Constable Country as you walk through the birthplace of one of England's greatest painters. Rendleshem Forest, Dedham Vale and the majestic beauty of The Brecks await you before you continue on your Olympic adventure.

The Olympics isn't solely about welcoming visitors from the continent and beyond, there are also travel requirements to be met a little closer to home. Channel Islanders wishing to experience the buzz of the Games can connect to mainland Britain through Flybe flights into Doncaster airport in near Sheffield. As heptathlete Jessica Ennis' hometown, you'll be in fine Olympic company as soon as you land.

From Sheffield, depending on your tickets, the choice will lead you either towards Manchester and Newcastle or down towards the Capital. Football events will take place at both Old Trafford and St. James Park. If you're ticketless then the rowing, the cycling road race and the long distance running will offer a way into some exciting events.

Despite the international influx from the Olympics, not all visitors this summer will be sports fans. There could still be some interest in our culture, history and areas of outstanding beauty. These travelers should not be penalized for visiting during the Games and by heading to Exeter airport they may not be.

Cheap flights from Europe land in the West Country airport frequently and as a base to explore the south and the southwest you couldn't find a better location.

With the Green Flag beaches and smugglers coves of Cornwall to the west and the ancient monument of Stonehenge and Salisbury to the east, there is no end to places of interest around Exeter.

Okay, perhaps there might just be an end to the places of interest around Exeter, but when you come to that end you'll find excellent and efficient trains into London (where there really is no end to the places of interest one can visit).

Wherever you fly to during the Olympics and for whatever reason, you can bet that by considering Britain's regional airports you'll find some of the cheapest flights available.
