5 romantic weekends in the UK
When thinking about a romantic getaway, you may find yourself browsing the budget airlines for a jaunt overseas. But you may be overlooking the romance right here on your doorstep. The UK has many undiscovered corners with stunning views, cosy B&Bs and great cities to explore. Plus, you'll save so much on travel there'll be more to spend on the most important part _ enjoying yourselves.
Here are five top romantic weekends every couple would enjoy, whether you met a few months ago on www.eharmony.co.uk or you are celebrating your first wedding anniversary.
Rent a cottage in the Lakes...

The Lake District is England's largest National Park, covering 885 square miles. It's known for its high peaks and, as its name would suggest, large collection of lakes. The highest mountain in England can be found here - Scafell Pike, which stands at 3210 feet.
Even if you're not a big walker, the Lake District is a great place to explore and really is spectacular. The small villages and ancient farmhouses are also extremely romantic, particularly in the winter when the distant mountains are sprinkled with snow.
Stroll down the Mile...
Going slightly further north, Edinburgh is another perfect place for a romantic trip away. With its gothic architecture, parks strewn with daffodils and the views of Arthur's Seat from just about anywhere in town, you'll feel at once in an urban and rural environment.
There are also loads of things to do, plenty to see and a lot of history to discover. The Old Town - consisting of the castle, top of the Royal Mile and Grassmarket - is the truly ancient area of the city. This is where the capital grew from until the late 18th century. So take a walk around the cobbled streets and soak in a bit of history.
Ice cream on the Devonshire coast...

Forget Devonshire cream teas, it's all about the ice cream. Also made from Devon's renowned clotted cream, there really are no ice creams like the ones you can buy on the Devonshire coast. And the quaint harbours and stunning untamed coastline couldn't be a more romantic place to take a stroll.
Take in London's lights...
Why not splash out for a night in the lights? Find a room in a posh London hotel and feel what it's like to be at the centre of one of the world's most exciting cities. Try finding a room by the river, so you really do get the full impact of London at night.
Travel to an Island...
The UK is home to a large collection of islands - more than a thousand. But some of the most beautiful can be found tucked along the western coast of Scotland.
Why not rent an apartment on Great Cumbrae, just across from the town of Largs? Its quaint seaside town of Millport has hardly changed at all in the past century, and boasts great places to eat. You can also cycle around the whole island for a great one-day trip.
Whether it's enjoying a date up in historic Edinburgh or staying in a posh hotel above London's lights, there are plenty of options for romance
