Two things overawe me about The Square. Firstly, the chef/patron,one Philip Howard, is AUSTRALIAN and secondly, when they moved premises, THEY DID NOT PUT THE PRICES UP! The décor is very light and airy but I would like to see a little more space around the tables if, for no other reason, so I can get my fat arse through the gap without dragging a neighbouring table's vase with me. The service is unquestionably the best in London; courteous, proficient and friendly! Yes - they talk to you!
The food is modern and eclectic, the presentation good but perhaps a little repetitive and the combination of tastes is truly unusual but interesting. The wine list is overtly universal, with offerings from all nations; it is also relatively extortionate.
Expect to pay about £60 per head for your meal with your booze bill starting at about £20.
Well-behaved kids would be welcome. |
