The Fat Man

 CHINESE

THE ORIENTAL
The Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London W1
Tel: 0171 629 8888
Fat Man rating: 75/100 (Too expensive to be any higher)

The Oriental is London's best, most elegant, most exclusive, most expensive Chinese restaurant - by a long, long way. Beautifully decorated and thoroughly conducive to an extravagant evening of debauchery, the food is peerless and has the distinct advantage of being monosodium glutamate free. Their dim sum at lunch time is divine and their specialties, such as shark's fin soup (£40+ a bowl!), wok-fried duck with black pepper and the honey-cured Char Siu pork just leaves one speechless; as will the bill! The wine list is relatively well-priced, with some good choices at the £25 or £30 mark.

The nosh, however, will cost you at least £60 per person, up to £100 if you chose lobster and the old dorsal broth. Fabulous food but try and get someone to take you there.

Kids under 12 - shot on sight.
