Not exactly what you would expect at the top of London's leading clothing store, is it? The entrance to Fifth Floor is via a side door and you come in through the food halls; dead romantic, eh?! First, you skirt around Yo! Sushi, then follow misleading signs and you end up in the bar which happens to be both incredibly trendy and a great place to pick up hookers, or so I hear! Finally, you enter the restaurant which is bright and very bland. Tables are well-placed but the chairs grab your rear-end in a vice-like grip.
The staff are quite able but predominantly rude but, be brave and shout at them ecos firstly, it's good fun and secondly they improve dramatically after that! The chef is Henry Harris and, perhaps unfairly, he is not as well known as he should be. There is a good selection of vegetarian (like we care about them) and fish dishes whilst desserts are good, if not desperately innovative. The wine list is very well priced and has a great choice from the lesser known vineyards and regions; you must have the George Vernay '96 Viognier which is just truly magnificent; at £32 it's not cheap but it is honestly worth it.
Overall, the restaurant is very good value, with the meal probably costing between £40 and £50 a head; the wine is, of course, up to you but trust me and splash out on the Vernay.
