The Fat Man

 INDIAN

BOMBAY BRASSERIE
Courtfield Close, Courtfield Road, London SW7
Tel: 0171 370 4040
Fat Man rating: 87/100

Not being the biggest fan of Indian cuisine, it is the greatest pleasure to proffer this outstanding bastion of the old colonial days Bombay Brasserie. Just off Gloucester Road in South Kensington, this mezzanine restaurant is huge. The owners have truly recreated an authentic ambience, with the dining area in two rooms; the first is a little somber with a pianist (quite a good one actually) entertaining you throughout, or stroll through to the conservatory which is bright and breezy - the better of the two options.

The staff is very, very good and friendly and happy to recommend balanced meals. All the really gut-wrenching stuff is marked with suitable health warnings so you shouldn't get caught out. All the usual suspects are well represented, together with some intriguing rarities, such as Crab Bhujanee and Chicken Xacutti. Overall, it is a memorable experience and worth being brave for; the wine list is short but cosmopolitan and not desperately expensive. I do, however, recommend drinking beer or an inexpensive Sauvignon Blanc as the delicacy of the wine will be obliterated by the meal!

Should cost between £30 and £45 per person for the victuals.

Kids welcome.
