Bishopthorpe Palace
In Bishopthorpe, south of the city

Bishopthorpe Palace, Bishopthorpe An Archiepiscopal Palace no longer stands in the City of York, but the Archbishops still have their residence just three miles to the south, in the village of Bishopthorpe near York Races.

The present building is of many periods, but the chapel dates from the original palace erected by Archbishop Walter de Grey in 1241. Later additions include the enchanting gatehouse, and main Gothic facade: giving a taste of the surprising, yet delightful, 'Strawberry Hill' entrance hall to be found inside. The palace is open once a year for the archiepiscopal garden party, or by appointment for group bookings.

That completes our tour of York. We hope you enjoyed it!
