Pendeen - Cornwall
One of Cornwall's last tin mines is still in operation at Pendeen, about ten miles west of St. Ives on the coastal road. Guided tours are available to the Geevor Mine and small museum. The locally-built Church of St. John the Baptist is a copy of the cathedral at Iona, the holy island and cradle of Celtic Christianity off the Scottish coast. Superb views are obtainable at Pendeen Watch, site of the lighthouse.
