Edward I's master builder, James of St. George created this beautiful fortress of almost perfect symmetry occupying flat ground close to the Menai Strait. Beaumaris, which means "beautiful march," is full of defensive innovations. A tower in the inner ward contains an attractive, vaulted chapel.
