Picton

The 12th century Castle of Picton, built by William Rufus, son of William the Conqueror, has now completely disappeared; the only remains are those of the 13th and 14th century castle block, towers and gate house. The later castle, the home of the Philips family for many generations, was spared during the English Civil Wars. In charge of the National Gardens Scheme, the wooded, flower-filled grounds provide a pleasant day outing. Picton is reached on the A40, four miles south of Haverfordwest.
