Llanybydder (Thlan Uh Buther)

About 14 miles northeast of Carmarthen, on the A485 to Lampeter lies the little town of Llanybydder. Here, on the borders of Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire come buyers and dealers from all over the world to attend the Llanybydder West Wales Horse Sales, held on every last Thursday of the month. Up to 400 horses, ponies, cobs, hunters and foals change hands each month. No longer used in the mines, quarries or for driving, the horses are invaluable for pony trekking, a fast-developing source of income for many West Wales farmers. The Welsh pony is also an ideal animal for children to ride.
