Llanfyllyn (Thlanvuthlin) and Dolwar Fach (Dolwar Vach)

Not too far from Oswestry, and snugly nestled in the upper Cain valley with its steep, wooded hills, are the little settlements of Llanfyllyn (Thlan vuth lin and Llanfihangel yng Ngwynfa: Thlan vee hang el ung Winva). Each year the former village celebrates its summer Festival that brings a world-class chamber orchestra to perform in the 18th century Parish church. In the churchyard of the latter village is a memorial to Ann Griffiths, one of Wales' most beloved hymn writers, whose home at Dolwar Fach has become a place of pilgrimage to those inspired by her works (written during the late 18th century Methodist Revival). The village can be reached on the A483 south from Oswestry to Llynclys, then the A495 until its junction with the A490 northwest, and from Llanfyllyn the B4393 west.
