Tours > Robin Hood's Nottingham > Old Basford
Old Basford Five Miles North of the centre of the City of Nottingham (554427)
Old Basford in the suburbs of Northern Nottingham is where local historian, Jim Lees, places Barnsdale, Robin Hood's home and favourite haunt in all the oldest ballads. There is still an area of that name near Doncaster in Yorkshire, but Jim identifies Barnsdale with Nottinghamshire's Bryunsdale, marked on ancient maps at the junction of the Rivers Day and Leen in Old Basford. It was centred on the area where Valley Road (A6514) now stands.
