Supposedly the centre of Sherwood Forest, as marked by a long-fallen oak tree, this small market-town was the home of Will Scarlet. Here he was born and brought up here, the son of Robin Hood's sister. There is an old story told locally of how when an old cottage was being demolished in the town a secret room was found containing a cap and clothing of Lincoln Green. Was this where Will had lived all those years ago?
