Norton Disney

Day 5.

Norton Disney is a village with a medieval church and is the resting-place of the one time Lords of the Manor, the Disney family. There are many Disney monuments inside from the 13th, 14th and 16th centuries, some of which have carved effigies. The name in those days was 'd'Isigny'. These are the ancestors of the American animated filmmaker Walt Disney.

Two mosaic floors were found when excavating a Roman villa in the parish. The site was near to the Roman town of Brough or 'Crocoalana', on the Fosse Way, just over the border in Nottinghamshire.

Next Stop: Stragglethorpe Hall
