In Search of Sir Francis Drake by Kathryn Gillett, Elizabethan England on Britannia
Parte Deux - the Cotswolds
Photograph of a Typical Cotswold Village by David Nash Ford.
In this second of a three-part series, Kathryn Gillett continues her search for places that transport her back to Elizabethan England.
When I planned this trip, I couldn't have imagined how important this corner of England was to become as part of my research for my historical fiction novel. At the time, my hope was that it would be authentic enough to take me back to the villages and landscapes of the days of Sir Francis Drake.
I was not to be disappointed. Once a booming region of wealthy wool merchants, the Cotswolds would soon enchant me with a medieval heritage it wears like a jewel in English history's crown.
