Some one else responded that the Spanish and French were involved far more extensively in the slave trade and this is very true, but also, one should keep in mind that even before the Western world enslaved the African people, they enslaved eachother. Prisoners of tribal wars were kept as slaves or killed by the conquering tribe. When the Westerners came to Africa, tribes sold these POW's to them, or traded them for goods. Always check into the history of a subject before spouting off.
