The Shepherd of Wansford Bridge Wansford Bridge, Lincolnshire
Shepherd Barnaby had always been treated kindly by Doctor Stefan. So when the Doctor lay in prison on a charge of witchcraft, the shepherd helped him to escape. "Thanks, my friend," said Stefan. "And remember when the moon appears with a silver ring in the night sky, drive your fattest sheep to the top of the church tower." Surely enough, on the thirteenth day the signs foretold appeared, and the shepherd followed the instructions of his friend. From the top of the tower he saw a huge tidal wave rushing over the marshland. Seizing the bell-rope, he clanged out a warning, so that all who heard might escape destruction.
