This
lagoon at Porthleven, separated from Mount's Bay and
the open sea by a thin stretch of stones and sand, is
one of the two
Cornish sites that claim to be the home of the
Lady
of the Lake. Looe Pool is the place most
closely aligned to the Medieval Romantic descriptions
of the lake into which Bedwyr
returned Excalibur
after the fateful Battle
of Camlann. The battle may have taken place in
the surrounding countryside and the wounded Arthur
could easily have been taken off to the Isle
of Avalon (the Scilly Isles perhaps) from
Mount's Bay.
