Lindisfarne Castle, Northumberland The 16th century castle, on Holy Island, perched on its little rock pyramid half a mile from the village, was bought early this century by Edward Hudson and with the help of Edwin Lutyens, turned into a modern residential home. Much of the great fireplaces, stone walls, columns and arches of the original building remain.
Hours: Apr-Oct daily except Fri 1pm - 5:30pm.
