Dunstanburgh, Northumberland
An enormous castle built on a remote coastal site with a huge keep and wide moat. Few castles are as splendid in their ruins, well worth the long walk from the distant parking lot.
Hours:15 Mar-15 Oct daily 9:30am - 6:30pm; 16 Oct-14 Mar-9:30am - 4pm; closed Maundy Thurs, Good Friday, 24-26 Dec and 1 Jan.
