Aldous Huxley was born in Surrey. His father was Thomas Henry Huxley the biologist who helped develop the theory of evolution. His mother was a novelist. She died of cancer when he was 14. At 16, Huxley was almost blinded by an eye disease. He was schooled at Eton College, where he later taught, and at the University of Oxford. He published four books of poetry before his first novel, Crome Yellow, was published in 1921. Eleven years later, Brave New World, his vision of the future made him famous. He lived in Italy and France and moved to America in the late 30s to write film scripts. His experimentation with hallucinogenic drugs, recounted in "Doors of Perception", made him a cult figure in the 60s.

Brave New World Though there is no violence and everyone is provided for, Bernard Marx feels something is missing and senses his relationship with a young women has the potential to be much more than the confines of their existence allow. Huxley foreshadowed many of the practices and gadgets we take for granted today--let's hope the sterility and absence of individuality he predicted aren't yet to come. Check price & availability
