John Tyndall (1820-1893)
Irish physicist and philosopher with an interest in biology. He is best known for experimenting on the ability of small particles to scatter light of different colors. He is also noted for his observation of the effect of a Penicullium mold in slowing the growth of bacteria in 1876, more than 50 years before Sir Alexander Fleming's chemical work on penicillin.
