St. Edburga of Lyming
(Died c.AD 650)
Died: AD 650 at Lyming, Kent
St. Edburga of Lyming is said to have been the first Anglo-Saxon virgin princess who dedicated herself to the service of God. She was daughter of Aethelbert, the first Christian King of Kent and sister of St. Ethelburga of Lyming. She was a nun with the latter in the first English nunnery, at Lyming in Kent. A well, near the church there, bears her name and was long believed to possess miraculous healing powers.
