St. Edburga of Gloucester
(Died AD 735)
Abbess of Gloucester
Died: 26th June AD 735 at Gloucester, Gloucestershire
St. Edburga of Gloucester, sister of King Osric of the Hwicce, was consecrated by St. Egwin in AD 710. She succeeded her elder sister, St. Cyneburga of Gloucester as the second Abbess of St. Peter's Abbey in that city. She ruled this religious house for a very long time - fifteen or twenty-five years. She was succeeded by Weeda and buried by Bishop Wilfrid of Worcester in AD 735.
