Your South Wales vacation package includes admission to the following British Heritage Properties.

Castell Coch. This Gothic Victorian castle, created by the fertile imagination of William Burges, is replete with beautiful and ornate giltwork, carvings, tilework and paintings. Be sure to note the story of Sleeping Beauty told in a fanciful ceiling mural. Other murals take their characters from Aesop's fables.

Caerphilly Castle. This 13th century double moated castle holds the distinction of being the second largest castle in Britain, after Windsor Castle. The fairy tale medieval castle in later centuries fell in disrepair to be restored to its present state in the 19th century by the influential Bute family. Its platformed keep, "leaning tower" and great hall are most impressive.

Tintern Abbey. Painted by Turner and praised by Wordsworth, Tintern Abbey sits in the lovely Welsh valley of Wye. It reached the height of its influence and wealth in the 14th century, only to be later dissolved by Henry VIII. A truly inspiring site. Lunch in the Abbey's tea room.

Caerleon. This site was home to the 5,500 strong 2nd Augustan Legion in 74 AD. Considered the aristocracy of Rome's armies, these structures reflect their high status. The amphitheater could seat 6,000 as they watched combative sports. The lavish baths included cold, warm and hot tubs. Unearthed in 1926, Caerleon is still under excavation.

Cardiff Castle. Built on a site, which has been occupied since Roman times, this Norman motte and bailey castle is surrounded by a wall of sculpted wolves, bears and lions. In the 1800's, architect William Burges redesigned this castle with a decidedly Victorian Gothic influence. View the unusual interiors of the Banquet Hall, the Summer Smoking Room and the Fairytale Nursery.

Aberdulais Waterfall. For over 300 years Aberdulais Waterfall has provided the energy to drive the wheels of industry. The Turbine House here affords a vantage point, to view the falls and displays about this unique hydroelectric system. Nearby is Britain's largest electricity generating water wheel.
Carreg Cennen Castle. The castle sits precariously on the edge of a cliff high above the Welsh village of Trapp. While here you'll see a working hill farm and enjoy riverside and hilltop walks.

Canal Museum. The Canal Museum is in the old town of Brecon. While today Welsh canals are the delight of tourists, these engineering marvels were the super-highways of the industrial revolution as raw materials were gathered, and the finished products where delivered to market.

Canal Cruise. Having learned how the canal system was constructed and its significance in building the Britain of today, you'll enjoy a relaxing change of pace as you glide through the verdant countryside in a vintage horse-drawn narrow boat.

Brecon Beacons National Park. On your way from the Canal Museum you will travel through this famous parkland. Within its 522 square miles, four mountain ranges undulate above wooded valleys. A hiker's paradise, walking trails now stretch across hills and through the old mining towns.

Tretower Court. This interesting site combines a restored medieval manor house, and across the meadow, the 13th century tower of a castle. Once the family home of metaphysical poet, Henry Vaughan, this house boast magnificent timberwork and a recreated 15th century garden.

Penhow Castle. This castle is Wales' oldest "lived in" castle. The restored period rooms, from battlements to kitchen make for a vivid and entertaining visit. After your visit, your coach will take you across the famous Severn Bridge to the historic town of Bristol where you will depart by train to your next destination.
