What you'll see:
Your Kent vacation package includes admission to the following British Heritage Properties.
Canterbury Cathedral. Dating from 597, Canterbury Cathedral is the most famous cathedral in England. It is the site of Thomas Becket's murder and noted for its medieval tombs of British royalty as well as many archbishops. View the 13th century stained glass windows depicting Becket's miracles.
Dover Castle. One of England's oldest, most important castles, Dover has been a vital position since Roman times. A mere 22 miles from Europe, it has stood as a sentinel since then. During World War II the Castle and the "Hellfire Caves" below were used for the British defense against Germany.
White Cliffs of Dover. These cliffs are truly one of the most famous English landmarks. These distinctive cliffs have been a welcoming site for returning sailors through the many centuries. Visit the romantic Cliffs and then lunch in the picturesque town of Dover.
Hever Castle. This castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, mistress and wife to Henry VIII. This moated castle dates from the 13th century and was restored by William Waldorf Astor in the early 1900's. Be sure to view the fine Edwardian woodwork. The beautiful formal Italian sculpture garden reflects the more modern influence.
Penshurst Place. Penshurst Place is considered one of the classic examples of medieval domestic architecture in Europe. Visit the Great Hall, view the tapestries and admire the weapons collection displayed in the Nether Gallery. Today the lovely formal gardens cover 11 acres, with 10 separate garden "rooms" divided by over one mile of yew hedges.
Hastings. This seaside village is the site of the 1066 Norman Invasion. Today, the town hall houses the 250-foot Hastings Embroidery, depicting 900 years of British history. You can also enjoy a stroll along the High Street of this charming South England town.
Battle Abbey. This Abbey was built by William in Penance for the blood spilt during the Norman Conquest. The high altar is built on the exact site where the defeated Harold was killed by Norman knights. Stand on the spot where the English troops viewed the battlefield where history was made.

Kent & East Sussex Steam Railway line. Take a nostalgic ride on the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway line. Boarding at the refurbished Edwardian station at Northiam, the restored steam locomotive returns you to a bygone era as you enjoy the scenery on the way to Tenterden, where you can lunch and re-board our deluxe coach and continue sightseeing.
Sissinghurst Gardens. Built around the remains of a moated Tudor Castle, these famous gardens were designed in the 1930's by writer Vita Sackville-West. The gardens include a spring garden, an orchard, a white garden and an herb garden. It is truly one of the most famous gardens in England.
Bateman's Manor House. This Manor House may have remained pleasant and unknown, had it not been purchased by Rudyard Kipling in 1902. The house retains a very strong influence of Mr. Kipling's life; his wife's portrait over the fireplace, watercolors painted by his uncle and his inkpot on which he carved the names of his books. (Tuesdays only)
Ightham Mote. The exterior of this medieval manor house has changed little since it was built in the 14th century. However, as you tour, notice the Tudor chapel, the medieval Great Hall, the hand painted Chinese wallpaper and the 18th century Palladian windows; all showing the influence of several different periods. (Thursdays only)
Museum of Kent Life. Dine at the Museum of Kent Life, located on the historic Cobbtree Estate. In addition to a three-course meal you will be able to visit many exhibits in this living museum.
Rochester Cathedral. The second oldest cathedral of England, it was founded in 604. Its architecture combines features from both the Norman and the Gothic styles. The crypt is considered to be the finest in the country. Here you'll find England's largest collection of medieval wall paintings. The oldest oil painting in England, "Wheel of Fortune" is on display in the Quire.
Charles Dickens Center. Housed in Eastgate House and built in 1590, the Center features the latest in technology to bring the characters and settings of Charles Dickens' Victorian era novels alive. It was in his summerhouse in the gardens here that he worked on the final chapters of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood", just before his death in 1870. At noon we depart from Rochester Station.
