Your Scottish Highlands vacation package includes admission to the following British Heritage Properties.

Highlands Scenery. The Highlands is a place of natural grandeur. Because most people visit the Highlands to experience its majestic beauty, longer coach passages have been scheduled so that you can enjoy the dramatic vistas that have inspired both residents and visitors through the ages. Your first passage takes you north to the heart of the Highlands, the city of Inverness.

Culloden Visitor Centre. The Centre, built by the National Trust of Scotland, is adjacent to the reconstructed site of the Battle of Culloden, which was fought and lost by Bonnie Prince Charlie's troops against the superior firepower of George II's army. The battle lasted only 40 minutes and marked the end of any serious attempt by the Jacobites to restore the Stuart dynasty to the British throne.

Inverness. This ancient gateway city is shadowed by the imposing Inverness Castle. The city sits at the end of the Caledonian Canal and most of its buildings date from the early 1800's. Among the sites here are St. Andrew's Cathedral, the pretty Ness Islands and the Gothic style Town Hall. You'll have ample time to enjoy a traditional Scottish pub lunch here.

Cruise on Loch Ness. You'll board a boat at Tomnahurich Bridge and cruise on its most famous Loch, hoping for a view of the elusive "Nessie." Halfway down the Loch you will disembark at Urquhart Castle and walk up the small hill to the castle where you will re-board the coach.

    Urquhart Castle.
Perhaps the most photographed place in Scotland, this castle was built as a royal defense in the 13th century to control the Great Glen of Scotland. Sacked and pillaged by nearly everyone, it was even blown up by the owners in 1692 to prevent it from becoming a Jacobite stronghold. Perched high above the water, the castle affords spectacular views of Loch Ness.
    Caledonian Canal.
On your trip back to Pitlochry you will follow the 60-mile long Caledonian Canal, built by Thomas Telford from 1803-1822 to connect Fort William and Inverness. You will also see the Commando Memorial, erected in 1952 to commemorate the World War II Commandos who trained in the area.

Dunkeld Cathedral & Dunkeld Little Houses. Founded in the 12th century, this cathedral sits by the River Tay and is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. Today the ancient choir is used as a parish church with the remains in ruin. The nearby Little Houses, rebuilt after the Battle of Dunkeld, date from 1689. They have been charmingly restored and can be viewed from the outside.

Glamis Castle. One of Scotland's best known castles because of its associations with the Royal Family, it is also one of the loveliest, with the Grampian mountain chain and the extensive park areas providing a spectacular backdrop. Princess Margaret was born here and the Queen Mother lived here as a child. The oldest part of the castle, known as Duncan's Hall is the setting of the Shakespeare play, "Macbeth."

Edradour Distillery. This distillery, hidden in the hills east of Pitlochry, holds the distinction of being the smallest in Scotland. In 1825 local farmers founded Edradour and it remains virtually unchanged since Victorian times. You will see the traditional distiller's art practiced as it has been for over 160 years.

Scone Palace. Built in 1580 on the grounds of an abbey, the Palace was the coronation site of all 42 Scottish Kings. Rebuilt in 1804, it now houses a superb collection of furniture, including Marie Antoinette's writing table. Needlework done by Mary Queen of Scots is displayed here, as well as an impressive collection of 18th and 19th century porcelain.

Branklyn Gardens. Often described as the finest two acres of private garden in Scotland, this garden offers an outstanding collection of plants, particularly rhododendrons, alpines, herbaceous and peat garden plants and attracts gardeners and botanists from all over the world.
